These lovely, A grade, polished Pietersite cabochon is smooth all the way around.

With a combination of colours and chatoyant flashes of gold and blue streaks that roll into each other catch the light. It has agatey sections that roll through the whole piece holding the chatoyant sprays set against a black opaque background. There is a small, natural dimple in its base that hasnt been polished out, I only mention for accuracy.

Pietersite (so called because it was discovered by Sid Pieters in Namibia) is a mix of blue, rich reds and gold tiger's eye in quartz which has been folded and stressed in the Earth. It has the lovely iridescence of tiger's eye but not in structured bands, more in swirls, swathes and patches.
